David Walker dies suddenly on Bridge Street.

August 6, 1830

[6/28] Walker’s body is found slumped in the doorway of his home. Rumors quickly spread in Boston’s black community that he had been murdered, possibly poisoned. But city records and the Boston Daily Courier report he died of “consumption” (tuberculosis). Walker is thought to be buried in an unmarked grave on Hawes Street in South Boston.
